Bicycle Helmet Lock

Project Objective:

"Cyclists need a secure and convenient method of storing a bicycle helmet on their bike when not in use". This is a project focused towards developing a user-centered product dedicated for improving the safety of bicycle commuters. Through various user-interviews, it was identified that riders were reluctant in using their helmets because of lack of storage options, either on or off the bicycle.

My Role:

As a Product Design Engineer, I worked towards generating multiple concepts and creating rapid prototypes based on continuous user feedback. This feedback was further used to drive functionality, usability and appearance. I also performed the market analysis by analyzing the growth trends, market dynamics and potential competitors across the U.S. to define product features and develop the business and operations plan.

Results:

A prototype of a retractable cable lock was developed that is always attached to the bike near the handlebar tube. The cable loops through the helmet vents and across the handlebar to lock it safely and conveniently and preventing it from theft and other damage.
